In March 2012, as part of Science in the Park, a physical model of the inner solar system was installed behind Wollaton Hall and included this representation of the Sun. Since then, the island in the middle of the Circular Pond has been removed.

Sun Sculpture

In 2015, a proposal was put forward to install a sculpture in the Circular Pond as a permanent representation of the Sun in the solar system model. It now appears unlikely that this installation will be given permission. However, this image shows what the sculpture might have looked like.
